The History of Java | Polymerize

Java starts from the company called Sun Microsystems. That company's research project code-named Green in 1991 is the beginning of Java. There are predictions that the microprocessor would be used widely in electronic equipment. Because of the wide range of microprocessor, it needed a programming language that can run on all of the microprocessor.

Then they created a new programming language. By James Gorsling, who was instrumental in the project, the program was named the 'Oak'. In accordance with the Oak tree that grows and can be seen through the window of his work at Sun Microsystem.

Later, they discovered that there is already a programming language named Oak. Finally, after some Sun employee visited a coffee shop, the name is replaced with the Java programming language. Java is one of the types of coffee beans in the store, coffee beans from Java. 

Sun Microsystems formally announces the presence of the Java language in 1995. This language began to be greeted warmly the wider community along with the hit of the era of the internet.

Currently, Sun Microsystems' Java splitted into four types of share issue, namely:
@ Java Card: the Java technology that is used on an electronic device that has a very limited memory, such as smart cards.
@ J2ME: Java 2 Platform Micro Edition is the small version of Java technology, used for the application of Java technology in electronic equipment such as mobile phones and PDAs.
@ J2SE: Java 2 Platform Standard Edition is a the standard version of Java, this technology used for the application of Java technology on your desktop computer.
@ J2EE: Java 2 Platform Enterprise Edition is the enterprise edition (commercial) of Java, used for the application of Java technology on the server computer.
